Beginning with the 1995 Strategic Plan, FWSI has maintained and updated a conceptual redevelopment plan to depict the vision for future land use on the Near Southside. This plan is consistent with the future land use map in the City’s Comprehensive Plan but provides a more detailed vision for the district. A combination of private and public projects are continually turning this plan into reality, and FWSI refines the future vision to reflect significant changes in development conditions.
Another way FWSI works to shape the future of the Near Southside and Fort Worth’s central city is through collaborations with other community organizations and the City of Fort Worth. These collaborative efforts have included a popular conference series featuring national experts, as well as studies of major policy initiatives and infrastructure investments, such as a modern streetcar system connecting the Near Southside, Downtown, West 7th Village and Trinity Uptown. These community collaborations have played an enormous role in the City’s support of higher density and walkable redevelopment throughout the central city’s urban areas.
