Report to Members & Partners December 2001 Beth El - The Fort Worth Independent School District placed former Temple Beth El, located at 207 W. Broadway, back on the market. The School Board’s judgment was that the building did not accommodate their needs as well as originally thought. The 1.3 acre site includes a three-level 37,000 sf building with a 600 seat auditorium, offices, classrooms, large dining room - all of this in an up and coming part of town. The district is having an appraisal done, and will receive purchase offers. Contact Steve Fortenberry, FWISD Chief Financial Officer, at 817-781-2100. Fire Station #8 - Station #8, now located at W. Rosedale and Lake Street, will be relocated and enlarged as a result of the widening of Rosedale. City Councilmember Wendy Davis and City Manager Gary Jackson have worked closely with FWS to secure a location for the new station that satisfies the fire department and supports the redevelopment vision of the neighborhood. The City has acquired the southeast corner of Rosedale and 12th Avenue for the new station, and is currently talking to the Fort Worth & Western Railroad about purchasing the abandoned railroad right-of-way located immediately east of the site. The FW&W railroad overpass of Rosedale Street at this location will be eliminated with the widening of Rosedale Street. Single Family Home - Since 1997, FWS has had discussions with three builders/developers interested in placing manufactured homes on vacant lots in the development district. Each of these firms had the legal right to do this, but they also wanted to respect the objectives of the neighborhood revitalization effort. It was the judgment of FWS's Development Committee that the quality and design of these products would not have enhanced the neighborhood, and they recommended that the builders come back with a better product. They did not. ACM Builders recently approached FWS about placing a modular manufactured home on a vacant lot at 1204 S. Lake Street. This time the quality of the 1,370 square foot three-bedroom two-bath building was better. The roofline and exterior were compatible with adjacent homes, and the builder agreed to site-build a full-width front porch. The home is nearing completion, and will be available for inspection. It is priced at $112,900. Phone (817) 247-7908 for more information. Community Tissue - Community Tissue Services-Fort Worth has acquired the former Dick Davis, Inc. building at 328 S. Adams and plans to relocate from their current office space on the Harris campus at 708 S. Henderson. They are a national not-for-profit organization with one of their five regional centers located in Fort Worth. They obtain and provide soft tissue (things like corneas, skin, bone, tendons, and heart valves) to patients primarily in nine north Texas counties (excluding Dallas), but also support a network of hospitals and physicians across the southwest. The seven full-time and five part-time employees will move to their new facility in April 2002. About 200 local donors per year contribute tissue to the program. Each donor will enhance the lives of 75 individuals. Partners Breakfast - This month's gathering of FWS members who want to talk "just business" will be held between 8 AM and 9 AM on Wednesday, January 9 at the second floor offices of Daedalus Development at the Modern Drug Village located at 709 W.
