Historic Southside, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation established in 1985 by a southside coalition to receive Federal funds for the Magnolia streetscape project.
This was the first organized step in revitalizing the historic Near Southside of Fort Worth and reversing its history of decline.
After completion of the Magnolia streetscape project, Historic Southside has continued as an advocate for neighborhood residential groups and historic preservation. In 1992 Historic Southside initiated the planning for improved security, code enforcement, and transportation in the area.
These groups then joined with the City of Fort Worth and the FW Transportation Authority to fund a Strategic Plan for the Near Southside. The plan recommended the creation of a non-profit redevelopment corporation to execute the Strategic Plan. Accordingly, Near Southside stakeholders created Fort Worth Southside Development District, Inc., now known as Fort Worth South, Inc.
Historic Southside, Inc. has continued as a 501(c)(3) subsidiary of Fort Worth South, Inc., and continues its role as advocate for neighborhoods, historic preservation, and other organizations with similar goals.
