The success of Fort Worth South, Inc. and the Near Southside's revitalization can be largely attributed to an effort that began in the early 1990s.
A coalition of stakeholders -- led by the hospitals, the City of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, and Historic Southside, Inc. -- came together to find ways to rescue the blighted Near Southside.
A thorough study by Sasaki Associates led directly to the creation of FWSI, the Southside Medical District TIF#4, and commitments from the major hospitals to remain in the area.
In 2003 a separate group of consultants reported on the district's progress and made additional recommendations for revitalizing the area.
