While the five major hospitals serve as the foundation for the city's second largest employment center (together the hospitals employ over 10,000), there are hundreds of independent clinics and offices, collectively providing a full range of health care services and bringing over 8,000 jobs to the Near Southside.
These clinics and offices are a key reason why the health sciences are celebrated as one of the Near Southside's key attributes.
