Various types of light rail transit have been successful in improving mobility and promoting economic development in cities throughout the country.
In 2002, the City and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority approved a plan for an ultra-light rail or modern streetcar system in Fort Worth, but subsequently prioritized regional commuter rail efforts.
The Central City Redevelopment Committee has led the effort to resume discussions about a light rail system, specifically a modern streetcar system similar to that found in Portland, Little Rock, and other cities. Their 2008 report Modern Streetcars for Fort Worth is available for download below.
