The Near Southside is split between two City Council Districts -- Districts 8 and 9.
FWSI has a strong history of working with the elected representatives of both districts, and has recognized former Councilmember Wendy Davis and current Mayor Pro Tem Kathleen Hicks with the Kline-Watts award. Current Councilmember Joel Burns followed Wendy Davis as the District 9 representative. Joel is a strong advocate for the district's continued revitalization.
